Glen Eugene Hollister, 86, Des Moines, IA, died August 10, 2018 in Urbandale, IA. Born February 1, 1932, in Audubon, IA, to William & Blanche (Hoyt) Hollister.
Survivors include wife, Arlette Jean (Bittle) Hollister, son, Mark (Christine) Hollister, and their children, Melissa Hollister, Laura Hollister, and Jacob Hollister, daughter, Debra (Mark) Johnson, and their children, Rachel (Sean) Gildersleeve, Nickolas Johnson, Benjamin (MacKailey) Johnson, and Matthew Johnson, sister- in- law, Mary Hollister, brother-in-law & sister- in- law, Darrell and Charlene Bittle, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Dean and Robert Hollister, and sister- in- law, Doris Hollister.
After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Glen attended business school in Omaha, NE. His career as an accountant, finance director, and controller spanned many years for Farm Bureau Federation. He served on numerous boards such as the Polk County Fair Board, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Urbandale County Club, Korean War Vets, Hoover Band Boosters, Ducks Unlimited, and the Iowa State 4-H Foundation. He loved the Iowa State Fair and worked there every year.
Glen was an avid Iowa State fan, received a silver medal in the Iowa Senior Games in 1997 for volleyball, would get his haircut at Omar the Barber, and kept the local Dairy Queen solvent.
Funeral services will be 10:30am, Wednesday, August 15, 2018, Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4114 Allison Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50310. A private family committal at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA, will follow that afternoon. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, 5 to 7pm, at Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA.
Memorials may be directed to the Polk County 4-H Foundation.
