Ingwersen, Lorraine (1948-2017)

Lorraine Ingwersen, 68, passed away March 13, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family, the same day as her mother-in-law 52 years later.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, at West Des Moines Christian Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines.
Lorraine was born September 17, 1948, in Elkader, IA to Lawrence and Georgina (Tieden) Gottschalk. After Lawrence passed away, her mother married Alfred Horstman who raised her as his own. She graduated in 1966 from Central Community High School in Elkader.
Lorraine worked at Clayton Co. Farm Bureau for six years before she transferred to Des Moines in 1972. She worked there for 41 years before her retirement. Lorraine worked in the crop hail dept. and held many titles. She began as a secretary and ended as senior crop insurance underwriter. Lorraine loved her job and meeting people and was very well respected in her field of expertise.
Lorraine was an excellent seamstress, who enjoyed cooking, gardening, and canning. She also enjoyed going to her children's baseball, track, band and choir activities, and spending time with her grandkids. Lorraine was active in bowling with Ken, and later with her kids in junior bowling. She traveled with Ken to various parts of the world like: Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, a Caribbean Cruise, and Panama for their 40th anniversary.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Ken; children, Jason (Jessica) Ingwersen and Nicole (Joshua) Collins; three grandchildren, Leah and Coen Ingwersen and Brayden Collins; sister-in-law, Betty Gottschalk; nieces, Tara (Bob) Kamin, Krista (Brian) Banyas, and Sara (John) Doyle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Loren; and father-in-law, Carl.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the John Stoddard Cancer Center or her church. The family would like to thank all the walkers at Valley West Mall, Dr. Dan Buroker and the staff at Medical Oncology, John Stoddard, and Wesley Life Hospice for all of your care and compassion.
