Clara Mae Carton, 86, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Clara was born to Lily and Floyd Miller on November 1, 1935, in Polk City, Iowa. Clara married the love of her life, Jimmie Carton, Sr., and traveled around the country with him when he was in the army. Clara worked for Mercy hospital switch board for 30 years while raising their 4 children. Clara loved to go to Amish stores and all the little knick-knack stores. She also just loved days of staying home and having her family over for visits and holidays. Clara is survived by her 4 children: Jimmie, Jr. (Cherie), Mark Sr., Sheila (Jerry) Rinehart, and Ronnie (Chandra); her 9 grandchildren: Patti Beckwith, Sara (Bryan) Hooyman, Shawn (Cody) Current, Mark Jr. Carton, Jimmie Carton III, Josh Carton, John (Christie) Rinehart and Lacy Bryngelson; 10 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-granchildren with 3 on the way. Clara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Isabell Bass, Anna Mary Wendel, her brothers Ben Miller, Donald Miller, and Floyd Miller and granddaughter Teri Carton. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 9am with the funeral to follow at 10am at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.
