Evelyn C. Hedges, Blair, NE formerly of Des Moines, 88, passed away November 24,2010 at the Memorial Community Care Hospital. Evelyn was born May 20, 1922, in Des Moines to John and Effie (Fern) Carroll. She worked for Look Magazine until her marriage to James W. (Billy) Hedges in 1947. Evelyn was a member of Grant Park Christian Church. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Margaret (John) Gaukler; son, Russell (Val) Hedges; and grandchildren, Mary (Bill) Gaines, and Jake and Clay Hedges. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy, her parents, sisters, Margaret Carroll, Marjorie Jean (Mickey Murphy) Carroll; and brother , William Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 29, 2010, at Grant Park Christian Church, 2440 Capitol Avenue, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital.
