Obituary

Rex Staub, 59, died April 24th, 2022 at his home in Urbandale. He was born on January 22nd, 1963 in Seattle, WA to George and Betty Staub. The family moved to Danville, IA in 1968. Rex graduated from Danville High School in 1981, Simpson College in 1985, and Drake Law School in 1990. While at Drake he was in the Army ROTC.

Rex joined the US Army XVIII Airborne Corps in 1990, where he was a Captain Advocate Officer at Fort Bragg, NC. During this time, he was deployed to Somalia from November 1993 - to April 1994. He was honorably discharged in 1994. Rex served in the Iowa Army National Guard 1998-2010 as a Major Judge Advocate Officer at Fort Dodge, Iowa. Throughout Rex’s military career he received numerous awards. He was very proud of both his and his father’s military service. After leaving active duty, he was an Attorney for several years. He was currently a Logistic Coordinator at XPO Logistics.

The most important thing in Rex’s life was his family. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, which he held stock in, Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Chicago Cubs. He was a coach and board director of Urbandale Youth Sports Organization for 16 years. His hobbies included collecting sports memorabilia and detailing his Ford Mustang. He actively worked as a volunteer at West Des Moines Elks Lodge #2752.

Rex is survived by the love of his life Kathy Peterson, children Nicholas (Allison), Kelsey, and Michael, and brother Bob (Teresa) Staub. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Pat.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 30th at 3 pm at the West Des Moines Elks Lodge, 2060 NW 94th St, Clive, IA 50325.

Graveside service will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery Tuesday, May 3 at 12:30 pm. Friends are invited to attend.
