David Swinehart, 75, passed away October 1, 2021 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.

David was born September 7, 1946 in Des Moines to James and Jean Swinehart. He attended Lincoln High School and later enlisted in the United States Navy. While stationed in California he met the love of his life, Susan Watson. They were married on February 19, 1965 in Ventura, California. David was in the Public Works Department for the federal government.

He enjoyed all kinds of classic cars and would attend Good Guys every year. He also enjoyed watching movies; everything from The Minions to Patton. But his favorite was the movie Christine. When the weather was nice you could find him with a fishing pole in his hand or in the backyard, throwing the ball for his dog, Mac.

David is survived by his children, Caryn Swinehart and Michael Swinehart (Michelle); grandchildren, Melanie Leach (David), Christopher Price and Madelynn Swinehart; great-grandchildren, Rylia, Camarilla, Christopher Jr., Alexander and Michael; mother, Jean Swinehart Speck; sister, Diana Hughes (Edward); sister-in-law, Cindy Swinehart; step-brother, Larry (Beverly) Speck; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan; daughter, Denise Swinehart; his brother, James Swinehart; father, James Swinehart; and Grandpa Don.

The family will greet friends on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 16th at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. David will be laid to rest with military honors at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
