Harold Lloyd Gilbert, 92, died in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 24, 2021.

He was born in Bedford, Iowa, on Aug. 17, 1928, to Raymond Lee Gilbert and Florence Alice (Flossie) Townsend. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1946 to July 1947 and in the U.S. Navy from April 1949 to January 1953. He married Annalea Irvin on June 23, 1956. He worked for Ozark Airlines and Trans World Airlines from 1957 until his retirement in 1990.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his four siblings, Dolores Cox, Betty McBride, Doyle Gilbert and Lowell (Pete) Gilbert; and close friends, Nola Swietlik and Eileen Rasmussen.

He is survived by daughters, Roberta (Joseph Barron) Gilbert and Nancy (Scott) Nelson; grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley) Nelson, Emma (Tyler) Westerberg and Isaac Nelson; and great-grandson, Owen Nelson.

Harold's family would like to thank Independence Village of Ames (formerly The Waterford at Ames) and Ramsey Village Continuing Care Retirement Community in Des Moines for the excellent care they provided to Harold.

At Harold's direction, his body has been donated to Des Moines University Medicine & Health Sciences for educational purposes. No funeral or visitation services will be held. Memorials may be directed to the Taylor County Ambulance at 1502 Madison Ave., Bedford, IA 50833.
