Donald Gunder, 79, passed away suddenly Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at home. Memorial services will be held 11 am Friday, September 28, at Plymouth United Church of Christ where the family will receive friends from 9:30 - 11 a.m. Memorial graveside services will be held at 2:30pm Friday at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Donald was born in Boone, graduated from Boone High School in 1952 and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Janice Runyan in Boone in 1957 where they lived until 1970 when they moved to Urbandale. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this past June. Donald worked at Northwestern Bell/US West for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Plymouth United Church of Christ and Urbandale American Legion. Donald was an avid Iowa State Fan and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his friends and family.

Donald is survived by his wife Janice, his children, Cara (Paul III) Strayer of Decorah and Douglas (Wanda) Gunder of Omaha; his grandchildren, Brent (Emily) Strayer, Megan Strayer, Krista Gunder and Ryan Gunder; and his great-granddaughter, Elsie Strayer.
