Richard Wayne Schwartz, 84, died peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2012, at Kavanagh House on 56th in Des Moines, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private service will take place at a later date.

Richard was born on May 6, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa to Charles Herbert and Clara Hope (Rineking) Schwartz. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1946 and Cornell College in 1950. He married Mary (Gossman) Schwartz on February 4, 1951, and they made their home in Des Moines. Richard was owner of Midwest Supply Company for 40 years. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. Richard, alongside of Mary, were avid tennis players. Richard enjoyed photography, woodworking, gardening, feeding their "backyard birds" and planting trees. Over the years, he has planted hundreds of trees on his Country Estate Tree Farm in Dallas County.

He is will be missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Schwartz of Des Moines; son, Jeff (Mary Beth) Schwartz of Baltimore, MD; daughter, Susan (Glen) Baker of Laguna Niguel, CA; three grandchildren, Melissa, Christina and Michael Baker; and a sister, Maxine Mittelstadt of Rochester, NY. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
