Joyce, 71, passed away September 10, 2012 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Her funeral will be 1 p.m., Saturday, September 15 at Brooks South Town Chapel at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Cheryl's family will greet friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the chapel.
Cheryl Joyce Welch, the daughter of Duane and Cordillia (Walter) Pond, was born April 16, 1941. She was a graduate of Logan High School, where she played on the basketball team and was the district free throw champion. Joyce was united in marriage with Bill Welch on August 26, 1962. She had worked several places, including Employer's Mutual, and worked alongside Bill in their business, Welch Patterns.
Joyce and Bill were members of two camping clubs, the Wagoneers and Hitchhikers. They wintered in Rio Valley Estates in Texas. Joyce enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, and listening to gospel music.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Welch; and her siblings: Barbara Pulley, Leora Pundt, Shirley Whitmore, and Robert Pond.
Cheryl is remembered by her husband of 50 years, Bill; her son, Dan (Teresa); three grandchildren: Amy (Joel), Amanda, and Jon (Crystal); seven great-grandchildren: Travis, Adam, Collin, Landon, Lilly, Breana and Brenden; her brother, Harlan Pond of Nodaway; and her sisters: Alice Burch of West Des Moines and Janice Woodard of Las Vegas, NV.
