Marjorie E. Canine died on August 12, 2012 just a few days short of her 92nd birthday. A graduate of Norwalk High School and the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing, she devoted her life to the nursing profession. She worked in a number of specialties within the profession, but her love was teaching others. Marge was an Operating Room instructor at Iowa Methodist most of her professional life, except for the years when she was recruited to go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, as a surgical nursing instructor.

Upon retirement, she volunteered at Wesley Acres and at Terrace Hill, where she was a tour guide noted for her cheerfulness and wry humor. Marge was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Chapter GH of PEO.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Elvin and Clara Canine of Norwalk, as well as a brother, Wayne of Akron, OH. She is survived by a brother, Willard Canine of Windsor Heights, IA, as well as six nieces and nephews and their ten children.

Her outgoing, loyal, and fun-loving spirit was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed by all her friends and family.

Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 5 to 7 pm. A graveside committal will be at the Norwalk Cemetery in Norwalk on Thursday, August 16 at 9:30 am; followed by the memorial service at Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove in Des Moines, IA at 11:00 a.m.
