Dorothy M. Giudicessi, 86, a lovely woman dedicated to family and faith, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012, after a long illness caused by progressive aphasia.

Dorothy was born on July 2, 1926, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Elmer and Eleanor Staley. She attended schools in Boone and Indianola and graduated from Indianola High School.

After graduation, Dorothy moved to Des Moines. While working at the New Utica, Dorothy's future brother-in-law Charlie introduced her to his youngest brother, Tony Giudicessi. Dorothy and Tony married in 1948 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Des Moines. They reached a milestone of 64 years of marriage this year.

Dorothy took great pride in seeing both sons graduate from college and in sharing in the accomplishments of her four grandchildren, all of whom obtained one or more college degrees. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, completing the daily New York Times crossword puzzle and, in retirement years, cheering for the Iowa Cubs.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Tony; her sons, Rick (Shari) and Mike (Cheryl); her four grandchildren, Tony (Megan), John, Beth, and Annie, as well as her great-granddaughter, Genevieve. Also surviving are her sister, Jean (Mel) Schoenbeck of Wilmington, DE; her sister-in-law, Ruth Staley of Gainesville, GA; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Junior.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Dorothy's church, St. Pius X in Urbandale, to Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston or to Iowa Health Home Care Hospice. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register, Fri 28 Sept 2012.
