Carl Wallace Mott died peacefully September 10, 2016 at the age of 94 in Altoona, Iowa. Carl was born in Runnells, Iowa on May 1, 1922 to Walter and Clara (Wallace) Mott. Carl grew up and attended Runnells High School. After high school Carl served in the United States Navy during WW2, aboard the USS Neville. Carl was involved with every Pacific engagement from Guadalcanal to Saipan, as well as the invasion of Sicily. He worked as a bricklayer for many years, and for Polk County Secondary Roads. Carl married Joyce Arlene Tounsley in 1945. They lived in Medford, Oregon and Newton, Iowa before moving back to Runnells. He lived there until June, 2016, when he moved to Prairie Vista Village in Altoona, Iowa.Carl was a former mayor and fire chief in Runnells, and a member of Runnells Christian Church.
Carl is survived by a daughter, Debby Coulson (Dave) of Runnells; two grandchildren, Jim Coulson (Jenny) of Runnells and Amy Reavis (Shane) of Runnells; four great-grandsons and two great-great grandchildren. Carl is also survived by a sister, Roberta Traviss of Des Moines; a brother, Art (Barb) of West Des Moines; sister-in-law, Marilyn of Oskaloosa, and many nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his wife Joyce; his parents, Walter and Clara Mott and two brothers, Duane and Bill.
Visitation will be at the Runnells Christian Church on Tuesday, September 13, from 5:00 to 8:00-pm. A funeral service is planned for Wednesday, September 14, at 1:00 p.m. at Runnells Christian Church, with burial to follow at the Lowman Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy.
