Joan Curl Bouslog
October 12, 1924 - May 02, 2011

Joan Curl Bouslog, 86, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away peacefully on 1:20 AM Monday May 2, 2011, at the McDonough District Hospital. Her death ended a 25 year courageous battle with diabetes and complications which followed.

Joan was born on October 12, 1924 in Paris, Illinois. She was one of ten children born to Roy and Margaret Englum Curl. Having grown up during the Great Depression, she enjoyed sharing stories of her family's struggles, sacrifices and successes. She graduated in 1942 from Paris High School. Following her formal education, she was a secretary at the Illinois Cereal Mills in Paris and Howe Lincoln Mercury in Macomb. However, the job that she was the proudest of was being the secretary of St. Paul Catholic School in Macomb for 20 years as it allowed her to practice her faith, which was very important to her, and mentor children every day. She was also an avid bridge player and played in several bridge groups in the community.

Joan married the love of her life, Nye Bouslog, on July 19, 1945. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last summer. They were true models of love, devotion, and commitment to one another. While Joan has left her earthly life, their love for one another will continue forever.

Joan and Nye had four children: Carol Koestner of Macomb; Steve Bouslog (Carla) of Princeton; and John Bouslog (Jill) of Urbandale, Iowa. Their daughter, Lynn Bouslog, died in 1997 in a tragic accident. Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband; children; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her brother, Joseph Curl of Paris; her sisters, Rose Marie Kenney of Paris, Patricia Roush of Paris, Peggy Doak (Samuel) of Rock Island, and Carolyn Harmon of Paris.

In addition to her daughter, Lynn; she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Jean Magill of Sacramento, California; and her brothers, Edward Curl of Macomb, Larry Curl of Paris and Jack Curl of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Joan's family would like to thank the physicians and staff of McDonough District Hospital for their care and compassion during her last illness. It was sincerely appreciated.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday May 9, 2011 at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial following at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Macomb, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday May 8, 2011 at St. Paul Catholic Church, with a Wake service at 7:45 PM.
