Lee Wissler Dies After Brief Illness

Had Been Connected With Business Firms Here Since 1908

Lewis Lee Wissler, 43 years old, secretary and sales manager of the Herring-Wissler company and prominent in Des Moines business circles for twenty years, died yesterday at 4:30 p. m. in the Iowa Methodist hospital. He had been seriously ill since Wednesday and died as the result of apoplexy.

Mr. Wissler was born at Neola, Dec. 22, 1884. He attended school at Exira and Cincinnati, Ia., and was graduated from the high school at Cincinnati.

After finishing his high school course Mr. Wissler studied steam engineering and worked as a hoisting engineer at Cincinnati and Centerville.

Came Here in 1908

In 1908 Mr. Wissler came to Des Moines and worked for the Globe Machinery and Supply company. When the Herring-Wissler Motor company opened its wholesale business in 1912 Mr. Wissler was employed by this organization and worked in various departments until 1916, when he was made sales manager of the company.

Later, when the Herring-Wissler company was organized, he was elected secretary. He served in the capacity of secretary and sales manager until the time of his death.

Mr. Wissler was married to Della Highbarger of Cincinnati Aug. 28, 1907. Four children were born of this marriage.

Active in Fraternal Groups

He was active in business and fraternal organizations of this city and was a member of the Lions club, Masonic lodge, the Plymouth Congregational church and the Golf and Country club.

The body was removed to Dunn’s funeral home pending completion of funeral arrangements.

The survivors include his wife, his four children, Carroll, 20 years old; Donald, 18 years old; Lee, jr., 10 years old, and Marilyn, 8 years old; his father and mother, the Rev. H. L. Wissler and Mrs. Wissler of Grinnell; a sister, Mrs. C. B. Van Ausdall, Sioux Falls, S. D.; four brothers W. E. Wissler, E. E. Wissler and J. F. Wissler, of Des Moines, and Charles W. Wissler, Kewanee, Ill.
