Richard Lee Henke, 64, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 at UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's in Sioux City, Iowa.

Memorial Service will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will continue until the service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

Richard Henke was born on September 3, 1957 in Akron, Iowa to Leslie and Lila (Timm) Henke. Richard attended 1st grade in Sayles School and then went to Akron High School. He graduated from high school in 1975.

His first job was helping a neighbor with hog chores. He then went to work at Load King in Elk Point. Later he drove a gas transport for Don Caskey. When his father died, he farmed for a few years. He also worked for Higman Sand & Gravel for a while and then LG Everist Sand and Gravel in Hawarden.

Richard enjoyed going deer hunting with some uncles and friends. For a few years he also would go racoon hunting with his friends. He enjoyed snowmobiling; one winter when the snow was extremely deep and people were snowed in their homes, the snowmobilers took food and medicine to those who needed it. He also enjoyed stock car and sprint car racing. He raced at a few different tracks. He also enjoyed demolition derbies.

Richard is survived by his mother, Lila Henke; sisters: Deborah Frank and Wanda (Frank) Minor; nieces: Jessica (Josh Swafford) Frank and Joanie (Charles) Rose; and other extended relatives.

Richard is preceded in death by his father, Leslie Henke, and brother in law, Tim Frank.
