Carol's Obituary

Carol Kroksh, 88, of Akron, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2021 at Adaville United Methodist Church, rural Merrill, Iowa. Pastor Lisa Millen will officiate. Private family burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Merrill, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. There will be a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Masks and social distancing per CDC guidelines are requested. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Services will be uploaded to the funeral home website following services.

Memorials can be made in Carol’s name to the Adaville United Methodist Church Women.

Carol Joy Bornholtz was born December 15, 1932 on a farm near Hinton, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and June (Zimmerman) Bornholtz. She attended country school near Hinton and later high school in Westfield, Iowa. She graduated from Westfield High School in 1951. She attended Westmar College in Le Mars and graduated with her teaching degree in 1955. While in college, she played on the women’s basketball team.

She was united in marriage to Marvin Kroksh on June 5, 1955 at Adaville United Methodist Church. Early on, they made their home in Battle Creek, Iowa, where she was teaching Home Ec. After a year and a half, they moved to Ireton, Iowa, where she taught for a short time. She then took a short leave from teaching to raise her family. After a while, they moved to Little Rock, Iowa, where she continued to teach. After a few years, they moved to a farm southeast of Akron. Carol taught for a few more years in Jefferson, South Dakota and later in Westfield, Iowa. After retiring from teaching, she helped Marvin on the farm. She also owned and operated a ceramic shop in Akron for a few years. She also worked in the kitchen at Casey’s in Akron and later in Merrill.

Carol was an active member of the Adaville United Methodist Church, having held many leadership positions over the years and has sang in the church choir since she was a teenager. She taught Sunday school and was active in the U.M.C.W. for over 60 years. She was a 4-H leader for Johnson Junior Homemakers for many years. She also was a judge of many 4-H projects and the county fairs. At the age of 82, she received her Horticulture degree from Iowa Central in Fort Dodge which allowed to judge garden exhibits at the fair. She loved her flowers, especially pink roses. She was a member of several garden clubs and a local gourd club. She also enjoyed bowling and active in bowling league for many years. Most of all, she loved the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed watching them participate in all their activities.

Survivors include her husband of over 65 years, Marvin of Akron, IA; 4 children: Keith (Connie) Kroksh of Ashland, NE, Deb (Alan) Den Ouden of Akron, IA, Karen Gengler of Sioux Falls, SD, and Randy (Debbie) Kroksh of Akron, IA; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two sisters in law: Ruth Hoffman of Sioux City, IA, and Dorothy Gagnon of Aurora, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Tom Dreeszen; and 4 grandchildren: Luke Kroksh, Brittany Kroksh, Tamara Miller, and Michael Gengler.
