Donald Henry Holck

Donald Holck, 89, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 at Accura HealthCare in Le Mars.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Grace Lutheran Church, L.C.M.S. in Le Mars. Reverend Timothy Geitz will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 in Le Mars will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Social distancing is required, and a mask is recommended. Services will be uploaded to the funeral home website following services. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Donald Henry Holck was born January 1, 1931 on a farm in O’Brien County, Iowa, the son of John and Alvina (Peters) Holck. At a young age, he moved with his family to Paullina, Iowa. He attended school and graduated from Paullina High School.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. He served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

He was united in marriage to Donna Bruns on November 6, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. The couple made their home in Le Mars, Iowa. Don worked for Kohout Cap Company in Le Mars until going to work for JCPenney in 1960. Don worked for over 32 years for JCPenney until the store closed in 1992. He then went to work for Fuel n’ More in Le Mars, retiring in 2005.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars where he served as a trustee. He was a charter member of the Le Mars Kiwanis Club and started the first “in-town” boys 4-H Club, the American Panthers. He was also a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 in Le Mars. Don enjoyed camping, fishing, and taking bus trips with Donna. He also enjoyed bowling and photography.

Survivors include his wife of over 65 years, Donna of Le Mars; 3 children: Debbie (Nick) Schmith of Sioux City, IA, Mark (Julie) Holck of Le Mars, IA, and Dawn (Joe) Harry of Hawarden, IA; 9 grandchildren; 10 ˝ great grandchildren; his sister, Uneva Berntson of Sanborn, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alvina Holck; his father and mother in law, George and Emma Bruns; and his siblings, LeRoy Holck, Elva Cole, Florence Osthus, Sylvia Fiddelke, and John Holck Jr.

Don’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Accura Healthcare for their comfort and care over the past 2 years.
