LIKELY SUICIDE.
Word reached here last Tuesday that George Walker, 34 years old, living on the Chamberlain farm, section 33, Perry township, had been found dead. It appears that on Sunday night, the young man had been visiting his step-mother and step-brother, Jefferson Walker, and appeared very despondent, giving his silk handkerchief, collar buttons, etc., to his brother. He was subject to fits, and the Walkers after he was gone, were tearful of his safety. Going over to the house in the morning, they were horrified at finding his body lifeless on the ground. The revolver with which the deed was done was a new English bulldog. One chamber was empty and the weapon was lying about three feet from the corpse. The bullet had entered the right side of his head. The jury returned a verdict that deceased came to his death by a shot fired from a revolver and by whom there was no evidence to show.

The Sioux City Journal, March 12, 1889

George Walker lived alone in a cabin on the Chamberlain farm, about six miles from the city up Perry creek. Yesterday morning he was found dead just outside the door of his hut. Near him lay a revolver with one chamber discharged, the bullet from which was in his brain. Walker was about 30 years of age and a sufferer from epilepsy, which had affected his mind. He was at the house of a neighbor on Sunday night to a late hour. The appearance of his bed indicated that he had retired after returning home. It is surmised that feeling a fit coming on, he arose and shot himself. His parents and other relatives reside in this city.
