Death claimed Mrs. Norton, 85, pioneer of Plymouth county, at her home in Merrill Thursday following an illness of two weeks. Mrs. Norton was a resident of Washington township and the village of Dalton for years and was widely known among the early settlers.

For the past year she had lived in Merrill to be near her son, Clarence.

Mrs. Norton was born in Wisconsin and when a girl came to northwestern Iowa and joined a brother living in Sioux City. Her maiden name was Louise Frances Bick. She was married to Homer Norton in Sioux City, Iowa in 1879 and they settled northwest of Merrill in Washington township, purchasing a quarter section of land, farming there for many years and then lived in Dalton.

She leaves to mourn her death her two sons, Clarence Norton, of Merrill, and Bert Norton, of Le Mars.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church at Merrill, Rev. James Albertson officiating.

Mrs. Norton was a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor, active in community and church circles and was highly esteemed by many neighbors and friends in a large acquaintance.
