Note he is buried in Le Mars Memorial Cemetery. His wife was the widow Bethiah Norton and her maiden name was Moore.

DIED

BROWN –At his residence five miles west of LeMars, on Saturday morning, Oct. 19, John H. Brown, aged 56 years, of cancer of the stomach.

Mr. Brown was one of the oldest residents of Plymouth county, coming here with his family from Wisconsin in 1871.

He. Was born in England and came to this country when a young man. He leaves a wife slightly older than he was three step sons and five children of his own. Homer Norton, one of his step-sons, was living with him at the time of his death, taking charge of the farm. The funeral was held at the Episcopal church on Monday afternoon, in charge Rev. Sparling. Mr. Brown was a member attended the funeral in a body.

John Boxly, who owns a farm and used to live near Mr. Brown, tells some incidents of the neighborly acts of the Browns that show why they were held in such high regard by all who knew them.

Their house was always noted for its hospitality and they made the visit of old acquaintances something to be remembered.
