Mrs. Edw J. Johnson of Brunsville passed away at 5:30 in the Lutheran hospital at Sioux City, September 12. She entered the hospital for treatment for a serious malady on Sept. 5, and the next day she submitted to an operation, from the effects of which she did not prove to be strong enough to recover.

Gesina Maria Tjarks, the daughter of Gerhard and Maria Tjarks, was horn at Guthrie, Ford County, Illinois, on November 17, 1888. In 1908 she came to Plymouth county where she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Elsen of LeMars, January 23, 1909, she was united in marriage at Anchor, 111., to Edward J. Johnson son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson of Brunsville, and to this union five children were born; Henry died in infancy; besides her bereaved husband she leaves the following. children, Elmer, Maria, Helene, and Harvey; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Beck of Gibson City, Illinois; Mrs. Bill Brucher, of Cropsey, Illinois, and Hannah, who lives at home; five brothers, George and Henry Tjarks of Melvin, 111.; Harry Tjarks, of Clifton, Illinois, John Tjarks of Kankakee, Illinois., and Fred Tjarks of Sibley, 111. Her father and mother are living at Sibley, Illinois.

Mr. and Mrs. Edw Johnson went into business at Mammen, Iowa, where they conducted a retail merchandise store in that village, later moving to Brunsville in 1910 where they have lived ever since.

Mrs. Johnson was a kind and loving wife and mother and her loss will be greatly grieved by relatives and old acquaintances, whose friendship she made during her residence in Brunsville: she was an active supporter of church and civic enterprises and her untimely death is a severe shock to her family and many friends.

Beautiful floral tributes were in evidence which showed in a measure the esteem the departed was held by her many associates,

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were held on Thursday afternoon at the Christ Lutheran church of Grant township with Rev. A. Schempp the pastor officiating. Burial was in the Grant Township Cemetery,
