LeMars Semi Weekly Sentinel, LeMars, Plymouth, Iowa Tuesday May 27, 1913

John McCoy, one of the old and well known residents of LeMars, died at his home on Court street in this city on Friday morning at seven o'clock. He had been in ill health for some time suffering from lung trouble and dropsy but was only confined to his bed for the past ten days.

John Joseph McCoy was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, on November 1, 1854. With his parents he came to America in 1863. They located in Pennsylvania. John McCoy came to Plymouth county in 1870 and has lived here ever since.

He was united in marriage with Miss Henrietta Lambert on June 2, 1880, in LeMars, and they settled on a, farm, where they lived for several years. About twenty years ago they moved into town.

To their union eleven children were born, who are Frank J. McCoy, of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Dan Shea, Colone, South Dakota; John J. and Leon D. McCoy, of Winside; Mayme, Katherine, Viola, Raymond, Laura Belle, James and Marcella, who live at home.

Besides his widow and children he leaves to mourn his death his brothers, Frank McCoy, of Dubuque; Michael McCoy, of Chicago; P. J. McCoy, of LeMars, and a sister, Mrs. Robt. Lewis, of Tilden, Neb.

The deceased was a member of Trinity Council, Knights of Columbus, and also a member of the local organization of the Woodmen of the World, and members of these orders attended the funeral, which was held on Sunday afternoon at St. James church, in a body.

John McCoy had a large acquaintance and enjoyed the respect of the community in which he lived for so many years. He was faithful and diligent, a devoted husband and father, sacrificed himself to give his children advantages of which he himself was deprived in youth and had the satisfaction of living long enough to see them making their way in the world following professions and filling positions of trust.

Mr. McCoy was a consistent and faithful member of the Roman Catholic church and died in the fullness of faith fortified by the ministrations of holy church.
