Jack McInnis, 87, of Westfield, Iowa passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Park Place Estates in Le Mars, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Reverend Don Nelson of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron with military honors conducted by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Jack L. McInnis was born June 13, 1928 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa, the son of John and Marie (Jepsen) McInnis. He attended country school in Plymouth County and later high school in Westfield. He graduated from Westfield High School in 1946.

He was drafted into the United States Army in October of 1946. He was stationed stateside in Washington State during WWII. He was honorably discharged in June of 1947. Following his discharge, he returned home to farm with his father.

He was united in marriage to Doris Larsen on September 9, 1949 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They farmed their entire life south of Westfield. Jack also was a seed dealer for Pioneer Seeds and drove a gravel truck for several years.

Jack was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. He was also a member of the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Jack served on the Westfield School Board for several years and was a past member of the Westfield Lion’s Club and Akron Saddle Club. Recently in 2009, Jack was able to take the “WWII Honor Flight” to Washington, D.C. to see the WWII Memorial. Through the years, he enjoyed horses, fishing, playing cards, dancing, and reading comic books.

Survivors include his wife of over 65 years, Doris of Westfield; a daughter: Carla (Ray) Edgington of Sioux City, IA; a son: Steve (Ruth) McInnis of Rapid City, SD; a son: Greg (Christy) McInnis of Le Mars, IA; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister: Joan (Jerry) Blake of Minneapolis, MN; two sisters in law: Lineah Lester of Washington and Jeanette Larsen of Norwalk, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister and her husband: Lois and Bill Milbrodt.
