BRIDE OF A WEEK CHANGES HER MIND

Mrs. Stark, nee Miss Clara Brauch Of LeMars, Claims She Was Unduly Influenced

Sioux City Journal: Declaring that she was married without her consent, Mrs. Claire Elizabeth Stark, a bride of a week, has filed a petition in district court asking for an annulment of the marriage.

Mrs. Stark who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brauch of LeMars, Iowa, has been employed as a stenographer at the office of Armour & Co. until recently. She is 27 years old.

Records at the office of the county clerk disclose that the ceremony was performed on December 10 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hampton, 1212 Douglas street, by Rev. E. R. Rippey, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. The records show that Mr. Hampton was a witness.

Papers Withdrawn

Immediately following the filing of the petition for the annulment of the marriage, the papers in the case were withdrawn from the clerk's office by A. C. Hatt, attorney for the bride. Refusing to show the paper to a representative of the press, the attorney, however, admitted that the bride claimed that she was under some strange influence when she was married. Clerks in the office of the county clerk, who claimed to have read the petition, declared that the bride charged that she was married without her consent.

Stark, the groom, who is a member of the firm of Stark and Wood, handling oil burners, declared that the marriage was performed in the Hampton home at about 10 o'clock in the evening. He denied that he used any undue influence on the bride to compel her to marry him. Following the ceremony, he asserted, they went to visit the girl's parents at LeMars. Two days later they returned to Sioux City. Stark claims that friends of his wife have poisoned her mind against him. He says he promised to let her obtain a divorce if she desired.

Father Is Wealthy

Inquiry at LeMars disclosed that the bride's parents are well known in the community. The father's fortune was estimated at $250,000. An attempt to Question the father resulted in the interviewer being propelled out of his presence. An Interview with the girl's mother, however, brought out the fact that the girl had told her mother that she was om a daze while the ceremony was being performed.

According to the interviewer, the mother informed him that her daughter had repeatedly refused to become Stark's wife and that she didn’t want to get married.
