Gale Ann Nelson, daughter of Dale and Verna (Duhn) Starkey was born January 13, 1948 in Estherville, Iowa. She passed away at home surrounded by her family Monday, August 3, 2020 in Graettinger, Iowa at the age of 72.
Gale attended Lincoln Central High School, graduating in 1966. She married Patrick Greene in March of 1967, they later divorced. Gale married Wayne Torreson in April of 1973, the couple had three children, Daniel, Angela, and David. This marriage was later dissolved.
Gale married Doug Nelson in March of 1990. The couple farmed side by side for many years. In 1994, Doug and Gale purchased the Redwood and operated it until 2004. They made many great friends. Gale enjoyed golf, NASCAR, owls, collecting owl memorabilia and going to casinos, spending time at the lake with family but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger, the Ladies Legion Auxiliary of Graettinger and was scorekeeper for ladies’ golf league.
Gale is survived by her children, Kelley (Tom) Jewell, Emmetsburg, Daniel (Melissa) Torreson, Graettinger, Angela (Scott) Sorbo, Graettinger, and David (Tabby) Torreson, Graettinger; 9 grandchildren, Kristen Torreson, Paige Jewell, Carson Torreson, Noah Jewell, Wyatt Iwen, Piper Gale Torreson, Aiden Sorbo, Matthew Torreson, and Elliott Sorbo; siblings, Linda Walrath, Becky Murray, and Kay Starkey, all of Graettinger; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Doug Nelson, her parents, Dale and Verna (Duhn) Starkey, her mother and father-in-law, Harry and Betty (Hermanson) Nelson, her brother, Greg Starkey, a nephew, Tim Westfall, and a brother-in-law, Terry Murray.
Interment at Lost Island Lutheran Cemetery, Ruthven, Iowa.
