He was the oldest son of Mrs. Gell and when Robert was yet quite young, his father departed this life and he was left to take the father's place and to help care for and educate the younger children. He seen many hardships and struggles but was always faithful in all his duties he had to perform. He was a true Christian and was loved and held high in esteem by this entire neighborhood. In 1895 he was united in marriage to Miss Letha Spencer and to this union was born four children, Ina, age 11, Georgia, age 8, Blanche, age 5, and the baby boy, age 15 months. Mr. Gell had been in ill health for the past several months and it had so affected his mind that at times he was not responsible for his acts, and it was during one of these periods that he drunk carbolic acid which caused his death. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Wednesday afternoon at 2, conducted by Rev. Mr. Scoggan and Rev. J.B. Bartley of Shenandoah, after which interment was made in the Howser cemetery. Besides his wife and four children, he leaves his mother, and two sisters. The entire community sympathizes with the bereaved one, and especially with the wife and children who are left, but may they look to Him who can give comfort in all times of trouble.
