Thomas Gillespie Died

Thomas Gillespie was born in Monohon county, Ireland, in 1831 and died at the home of his son Samuel, Tarkio township, this county, September 18, 1906, being in his 75th year. He came to Carroll county Illinois, in 1849, where he was united in marriage to Miss Maria Donaldson, in 1856. They came to Page county, Iowa, in 1870. To them were born ten children, nine of whom survive him, four sons and five daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Turner, died in 1905. John J., Chas H., and Sadie, of Colorado Springs, Mrs. Anna Wall, Mrs. Ella Allison and Robert Gillespie, of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Mrs. Grace Gordon and Miss Minnie Pease, of Shenandoah, and Samuel Gillespie, of this place. He also leaves one brother, Chas. Gillespie, of Essex, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Wall, of St. Jo, Mo. His wife died in 1895. He has long been a member of the Presbyterian church, being a member of the First Presbyterian of Colorado Springs at the time of his death. He was a good neighbor, kind and loving father and husband and he will be greatly missed by all. The funeral was held Thursday at the home of the son where he died and the burial took place at the Essex cemetery. The cause of death was old age and chronic nephritis.
