Services in memory of LaVerna Amanda Matilda Peters were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2003, at the Warner Funeral Home in Hartley, Iowa. Pastor Mike Miller officiated.

Casket bearers were all of LaVerna's grandchildren. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LaVerna Amanda Matilda Peters, the daughter of William and Sophia (Newkirk) Buchholz was born February 17, 1913, in Osceola County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent near Melvin, Iowa, where she received her education in country schools.

LaVerna married Joseph A. Muilenburg on November 7,1931. Following their marriage, they lived near Melvin where they farmed. Joseph passed away April 17,1951.

LaVerna married Edward Robert Peters on December 24, 1951. After their marriage, they lived in Hartley where she worked at the Hartley Creamery. Edward passed away June of 1961, and later she moved to Spencer for two years, then to Spirit Lake where she worked for the Black Coach, Village East and the Fisherman's Wharf.

LaVerna passed away at the Rosewood Manor at Estherville, Iowa, on Thursday, June 26, 2003, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Betty Wetherell; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and five sisters.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Mavis and Duane Richard of Lake Park, Iowa, and Lucille and Lloyd Busse of Marcus, Iowa; one son and his wife, Clifford and Sue Muilenburg of Superior, Iowa; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Gilbert Buchholz of Sanborn, Iowa; one sister, Thelma Ferguson of Bullhead City, Arizona; and other relatives.
