Louis H. Buchholz, son of August and Fannie (Loger) Buchholz, was born near Melvin, Iowa, on April 11, 1897. He lived his youth, attended school and grew to young manhood in this vicinity.

He served in the Armed Forces in World War I. He was engaged in various business ventures during his life and served as the school custodian in the Melvin school for 20 years.

He was united in marriage to Lilah Wilcox of Rolfe, Ia., on December 3, 1932, at Sioux Falls, S.D. Their entire married life was lived in Melvin.

He passed away at the Community Memorial Hospital at Sheldon, Iowa on February 3, 1976, at the age of 78 years, nine months and 22 days.

He is survived by his wife Lilah, of Melvin; one son, Louis H. of Jefferson, S.D.; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Hansen of Holstein, Iowa, and Mrs. Ivan (Mary Jayne) Elgersma of Lakeville, Minn.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

He was a member of the American Legion Post of Melvin, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at Melvin United Methodist Church of Melvin on Thursday, Feb. 5 with the Rev. Paul Hansen officiating.

Casket bearers were: Richard Roede, Clarence Elgersma, Russell Benz, Otto Wendland, Roger Remmers and Dennis Heilman.

Interment was in Baker Township Cemetery, Melvin, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post, Melvin. The Sanborn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
