SERVICES HELD AT MELVIN SATURDAY FOR J.H. GRAVES

John H. Graves, 83, died Wednesday, February 25, at the home of his youngest daughter, Mrs. Stanley McDougall, Melvin, Ia.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Methodist church at Ocheyedan, by the Rev. Elwood Poore. Interment was in the Ocheyedan cemetery.

Mr. Graves, son of John and Mary (Smith) Graves, was born Feb. 20, 1876, at Miles, Iowa. His parents were pioneer settlers of Osceola County.

He was married to Amy Jacobs in 1901. To this union seven children were born.

He farmed at Melvin for several years, later moving to Ocheyedan, where he was engaged in the mercantile business and later the machinery business.

Mr. Graves was on the town council for several years and was always interested in civic affairs.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mildred (Mrs. Robert Kinney) in 1956.

He is survived by six children, Mrs. G.W. Strayer, Bakersfield, Calif.; Mrs. Joe Kout, Ocheyedan, Iowa; Mr. John A. Graves, Melvin; Mrs. Frank Eyraud, Bakersfield, Calif.; Mrs. Stanley McDougall, Melvin, Donald I. Graves, Bakersfield, Calif. Also, one brother, Albert J. Graves of Ocheyedan.
