Albert Jacobs of Melvin Succumbs

Albert Jacobs, 83 of Melvin, passed away at his home in Melvin early Monday morning. Mr. Jacobs was born August 22, 1853. He had lived in Melvin for 45 years. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon.

Albert Jacobs, son of Jacob and Carrie Halverson, was born at Oslo, Norway, on August 22, 1853, and passed away at his home in Melvin, Ia., on March 21, 1938, being 84 years and 7 months old.

When 8 years of age he came with his parents to America and settled on a farm in Argyll Township, LaFayette County, Wis. Here he grew to manhood, and on December 25, 1875 was united in marriage to Mary Everson of that locality. They made their home in LaFayette County until 1878 in which year they moved by covered wagon to Iowa, locating on a farm near Ashton. Some years later they moved into Ashton where Mr. Jacobs operated the dray line. About 35 years ago the family moved to Melvin where they have since resided. For 60 years they have been residents of Osceola county.

To this union nine children were born: Mrs. Mina Rieman of Aberdeen, Wash.; Mrs. John H. Graves of Ocheyedan; Mrs. Emil Dass of Alden; George R. Jacobs of Glenwood, Minn.; Edward J. of Canton, S D.; Earl of Fairmont, Minn; Mrs. Fred Graves and Henry C. Jacobs of Melvin and Mrs. Henry Lutterman who passed away in 1918.

For seven years, Mr. Jacobs served as rural mail carrier out of Melvin, and also served the town as councilman and town marshall. As a young man he was confirmed in the Lutheran church.

Besides his wife and children there remain to mourn his passing, one brother, Michael Jacobson and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Hendrickson and Mrs. Albert Anderson all of Argyll Township, Wis., 33 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
