Lewis Frederick Linder was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, March 5, 1856, and departed this life May 3, 1913, at 57 years, 1 month and 18 days. The cause of his death was a complication of diseases brought about by cancer.

At the age of 18 he moved with the family to Dysart, Iowa, where on the 9th day of September, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Dora Gunderman. This happy union was blessed with 9 children, 5 sons and 4 daughters. He lived at Dysart about 19 years and in the year 1893, he came to a farm near Hartley where he lived until his health became so impaired that he had to give up farming, coming to Hartley in the month of September, 1912.

Brother Linder was a devoted Christian, a kind and indulgent father. While there were many joys and real pleasures in his life, it was also richly laden with toils and suffering, especially the more recent months. He was a sufferer in the school of life but he bore it all with the fortitude of a real saint of God. Truly, it may be said of him, "He was patient in trials, made perfect through suffering, and has now been accounted worthy to go into His presence, who will be able to make him understand that this affliction which often seemed so heavy and long, was light and but for a moment and is now working out a far more exceeding weight of glory."

Visitors to his bedside found him patient and resigned to the will of God, waiting for his departure.

May the Lord comfort and sustain the bereaved, one and all, and may there be a glorious reunion above.

He leaves a widow, five sons, Henry at Chicago, John, Charles, Frank, and Roy at home, 4 daughters, Mrs. Mary Fenner of Independence, Mrs. Anna Rick of Williams, Sarah and Neita at home. 5 grandchildren. 3 sisters, Mrs. Ida Anderson of Kossuth county, Mrs. Sadie Hecht of Dysart, and Mrs. Katie Albright of Hartley. 3 brothers, Henry, Martin and William of Hartley, besides a large number of other relatives and friends who mourn his daparture.

Brother Linder was always a good neighbor and a good citizen, and his death is mourned by a large circle of friends and citizens of the community who have known him for years.
