Dorothea Elizabeth Gundermann was born March 18, 1853, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gundermann in Hienebach, Hessen, Germany. Her parents died when she was still a child and at the age of 14, she came to America with her brother, Henry, settling in Illinois.

On September 9, 1879, she was united in marriage to Lews F. Linder. They made their home in Dysart, Iowa, until 1893, when they moved to a farm near Hartley, Iowa.

To this union were born 9 children. In 1913 her husband and one son, Leroy, age 15, preceded her in death. A daughter, Anna, Mrs. George Rick, passed away in 1920.

The remaining children are: Mary, Mrs. A.C. Fenner of Oelwein, Iowa, Henry of Chicago, Frank of Knoxville, Iowa, John of Hartley, and Mrs. Sarah Vincent, Charles and Nelda of Independence. She also leaves eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Linder was baptized in infancy and was a member of the Evangelical Church until moving to Independence 30 years ago when she became a member of the Methodist Church.

On Saturday morning, March 27, at the age of 95, she passed away as quietly and peacefully as she had always lived, leaving a blessed memory to her children.

Funeral services were held at Independence in the Swan Funeral Home with the Rev. H.W. Singer officiating.

A second service was held in the Foley Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. S. A. Kruschwitz officiating. Mrs. H.B. Pike was at the organ. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley.
