Services in memory of Earl Gerald Nellis were conducted on Tuesday, August 28, 2001, at the Warner Funeral Home in Hartley. Pastor Mike Willer officiated. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Earl Gerald Nellis, the son of Merle and Helen Baumeister Nellis was born February 21, 1931, in Hartley, Iowa, and received his education in country schools near Hartley and the Milford area.

On November 15, 1958, Earl married Karen Waggoner in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, Earl worked for Tripp Auto Sales as a mechanic and in 1969, they moved to Hartley, where Earl worked for Sorensen Farm Drainage. He retired in 1997.

While living in Hartley, he was a member of the Arthur W. Kirchoff Post 288 of the American Legion, and his real love was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He also had a great git for visiting with his friends and family and enjoyed Bingo.

On Saturday, August 25, 2001, Earl passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lee Nellis.

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Karen, of Hartley; three children: Cindy and Steve Gathman of Osmond, Nebraska, Greg and Ella Nellis of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Crystal and Dennis Albrant of Sutherland, Iowa; six grandchildren; three brothers, LeRoy Nellis and his wife, Betty of Royal, Iowa, David Nellis of Primghar, Iowa, Dale Ellis and his wife, Linda, of Sutherland, and as well as other relatives and friends.
