Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 24, 1993, for Owen "Kent" Wagner, age 72, of Hartley. The services were held at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, with Rev. Milo Sheldon officiating. Military services were conducted by Arthur W. Kirchhoff Post #288, American Legion of Hartley. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner-Baumggarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Owen Kent Wagner, the son of William "Red" and Velma Horsemann [sic Horstman] Wagner, was born May 5, 1921, in Hartley, Iowa, and it was there he graduated from high school.

Kent entered the military and served with the US Navy from August 1, 1942, until the time of his discharge on October 1, 1943. Following his discharge from the Navy, he came back to the Hartley area.

On May 31, 1950, Kent married Irene GeElla Giesel in Austin, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived in Hartley, where they operated Red's Cafe until their retirement in 1984. He was a member of Trunity United Church of Christ and the American legion in Hartley.

Mr. Wagner passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Knoxville, Iowa on Sunday, November 21, 1993, at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rescal.

He is survived by his wife, Irene of Hartley; one stepson and his wife, Jim and Syd Giesel of Clare Lake, South Dakota; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, one brother, Dr. L.W. Wagner of Austin, Minnesota, other relatives and many friends.
