Gus Westphal, 71, of Paullina, died Saturday at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. July 11 at the Sanborn Funeral Home in Sanborn, the Rev. Albert Cocke of the United Methodist Church of Archer officiated. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery [sic WEST PV] in Paullina.
Mr. Westphal was born July 4, 1908 in Paullina. He married Vera Peper Feb 8, 1932 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They farmed near Paullina until their retirement in 1968 when they moved to town.
Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Charlene Hurtig of Archer; three grandsons, Kent, Kirk and Kevin Hurtig; two brothers, John of Waterloo and William of Hartley, and two sisters, Emma Luhrs and Lena Struve, both of Hartley.
