Services were held Friday, June
21 for Merlyn Leroy Draper, 75 of
Sutherland, who passed away Tuesday,
June 18 in the Baum-Harmon
Memorial Hospital in Primghar following
a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held at the
Grace Baptist Church in Cherokee
with pastor Stephen Davis officiating.
Burial was m Waterman Cemetery
at Sutherland with military rites
by the Sutherland American Legion
Post #152. Arrangements were handled
by Boothby Funeral Home in
Cherokee.

Merlyn Draper was born November 24, 1920
in Cherokee, Iowa to
Leroy and Letha (Dodge) Draper. He
attended country school in the
Sutherland area.

He was married to
Dorothy Montgomery on June 8,
1941 in Cherokee. He had farmed in
the Larrabee, Cherokee and Sutherland
area, retiring in 1986 due to his
declining health.

Mr. Draper was a veteran of
World War II, serving in the U.S
Marine Corps from January 27, 1945
until February 4, 1946, serving on
the U.S.S. Columbia. He had lived in
the Sutherland area for 35 years. He
was affiliated with the Grace Baptist
Church in Cherokee and was a member
of the Sutherland American Legion
Post #152.

Mr. Draper was preceded in death
by his parents, a daughter Mary
Draper Christopher, a brother Robert
Draper St., and a sister Dorothy
Schook.

He is survived by his wife
Dorothy, three sons and one daughter
Dennis Draper of Burleson,
Texas; Wayne Draper and his wife
Sandie of Minden, Nevada; Richard
"Rick" Draper and his wife Diane of
New Richland, Minnesota; Lee Ann
Schwarz and her husband Rod of
Sutherland; a son-in-law- Marion
Christopher of Kokomo, Indiana; 13
grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren
and two sisters: Joyce Hicks and her
husband Don of Weslaco, Texas;
Delores Briggs and her husband
George Briggs, Jr. of Cherokee.
