Dorothy Draper was born
September 11, 1921 on a rural farm
near Calumet to Christopher and
Grace Frear Montgomery. She attended
Calumet grade schools and
graduated from Sutherland High
School in 1939.

She was married to Merlyn Leroy Draper
on June 8, 1941 in Cherokee. They farmed in
the Larrabee, Cherokee and Sutherland
area until they retired in 1986.
They had resided in Sutherland since
September of 1993.

Dorothy was a housewife and loving mother
of five children, and the couple had
55 years and 10 days together before Merlyn
passed away on June 18, 1996.

Dorothy was affiliated with the
Grace Baptist Church in Cherokee
and was a member of the Sutherland
American Legion Auxiliary #152.

She was preceded in death by her
parents, her husband, a daughter,
Mary Draper Christopher, a sister,
Edna Clow, and a brother, Clarence
Montgomery.

She is survived by three sons and
one daughter: Dennis Draper of
Burleson, Texas; Wayne Draper and
Sandie of Minden, Nevada; Richard
Draper and Diane of New Richland,
Minnesota; Lee Ann Schwarz and
Rod of Sutherland; a son-in-law,
Marion Christopher of Kokomo, Indiana;
13 grandchildren, eight great-
grandchildren, and two sisters: Ruth
Fredenburg and Wayne of Yucca
Valley, California; Inez Lesher of
Gary, South Dakota; and a sister-inlaw:
Winnifred Montgomery of Cherokee.

Services for Dorothy Montgomery
Draper were held Friday,
December 6 at the Boothby Funeral
Home in Cherokee. Pastor Stephen
Davis officiated. Burial was in the
Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland.
