Christopher C. Montgomery, son of William and Elizabeth Montgomery, was born at Abbington,[sic] Washington County, Virginia, on November 6, 1875. He passed away at his home near Larrabee, Iowa, on August 14, 1949, at the age of 73 years, 9 months, and 8 days.

His childhood was spent in Virginia, North Carolina, and Indiana; and at the age of 21, he came to Iowa, first living at Fort Dodge for 2 years, and then moving to Sutherland. The remainder of his life was spent in the Sutherland, Calumet, and Larrabee communities.

The deceased was a member of the Friends Church and he attended the public schools near his home as a child. A man of steadfast faith, he walways held dear to him the religious teachings of his childhood and testified to that same faith when he knew he lay near death.

He was married to Grace Frear at her home in the Highland community on March 1, 1905. They wer the parents of 5 children, all of whom survive their father. He had been suffering from heart disease for about 9 months and succumbed suddenly on Sunday night.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Grace, his four daughters and one son: Edna (Mirs. Gilbert Clow) of Cherokee, Inez (Mrs. Harry Lesher) of Gary, S. Dakota, Clarence of Larrabee, Ruth (Mrs. Wayne Fredenberg) of Long Beach, California, and Dorothy (Mrs. Merlyn Draper) of Cherokee; 13 grandchildren, and his many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church in Sutherland, with Rev. Albert Hurst of Larrabee in charge, directed by the Baumgarten Funeral Home. Interment was in Waterman Cemetery.
