David Ozias Clay, the son of
David and Lovisa Root Clay, was
born April 14, 1880 at Hale, Iowa,
and passed into eternal rest on
December 4, 1961 in Hartley,
Iowa, at the age of 81 years, 7
months and 19 days.He lived at
Hale until the age
of 28 years, at which time he
came to O'Brien County, where
he had made his home since that
time.

He was married to Leila Patton
on New Years Day of 1908, the
ceremony taking place at the Patton
home at Olin, Iowa. To them
were born three children: Earl,
Irene, and Ardys. The family lived
on their farm in O'Brien County
until 1956, at which time he and
his wife moved to Hartley, and
he retired from his active farm
work which he had loved so much.

Mr. Clay was a member of the
Methodist Church. While a young
man he had been superintendent
of the Sunday School of the Baptist
Church near Hale. He was also
a 50 year member of the Modern
Woodmen of America and a Royal
Neighbor. He had been assessor of
Center Township for 14 years, had
served as chairman of the school
board in his community, and had
served on the telephone board
for many years. He was always
active in the work of his community,
and interested in the welfare
of others.

In 1958 he and his wife were
privileged to observe their Golden
Wedding Anniversary. Again last
May they enjoyed having all of
their family together. He was a
wonderful husband and father,
and his family meant more to him
than anything else.

He was preceded in death by
three brothers and two sisters.
Left to cherish his memory are
his wife, Leila, his only son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Clay who also live at Hartley,
his daughters and sons-inlaw,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Meier
and Mr. and Mrs. Orland Krutzfeldt,
all of Minneapolis, eight
grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren,
four sisters, Mrs. Josie
Sawyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
Mrs. Lida Fowlie of Stanwood,
Iowa, Mrs. Bertha Ramsey of
Winters, California, and Mrs.
Leona Rohweder of Olin, Iowa,
as well as other relatives and his
many friends.

Services were held in the
Methodist Church on Wednesday,
December 6, at 2:00 p.m. with interment
in the Pleasant View
cemetery. The Baumgarten Funeral
Home was in charge of funeral
arrangements. Honorary pallbearers
