Mrs. LaVerne "Jake" (Ella) Alberts, 50, of 1012 Pilot St., Cherokee, died Tuesday at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha, Neb., following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Alberts was born March 28, 1936 in Sutherland, Iowa to Mr. and Mrs. Wilhelm Rahbusch. She married LaVerne "Jake" Alberts on Oct 30,1954, in Sioux City. She lived in Cherokee County since 1955.

Mrs. Alberts was on the nursing staff at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute until 1980, when she began assisting her husband in managing the Cherokee V.F.W. Club. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Terry and Rick, of Cherokee, and Timothy, of Fort Ord, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Jon (Ronda) Peterson, and Lori Alberts, both of Cherokee; nine grandchildren; her mother, Catherine Rahbusch of Sutherland; five sisters, Mrs. Paul (Christine) Mathern of Gaza, Mrs. Don (Marianne Lenhart) of Sutherland, Marga Wede of Cherokee, Betty Reinfeld of Napa, Calif., and Ruth Durant of Ontario, Calif.; four brothers, John, Tom, Herman and Harry, all of Sutherland.

She was preceded in death by her father, one daughter and one brother.

Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cherokee. The Rev. Lowell Koch will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. The Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee, is in charge of arrangements. A family prayer service will be Friday at 1:15 p.m. at the church.
