Quite unexpectedly and as a shock came the news of the death of Mrs. Lewis Bruegman of our vicinity. A week ago Sunday she had been brought to the hospital for the removal of acute appendix. It was seen very soon that recovery would be a difficult process. She was given he best of care, but on Monday this week took a turn for the worse and early in the evening, surrounded by the members of her family, she answered the summons from on high.
Mrs. Alvina C. Bruegman, nee Stoterau, was born November 12th, 1886 at Donohue, Iowa, the daughter and oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Stoterau. She grew to young womanhood on the farm. In 1903 she removed with her parents and brothers and sister to the vicinity of Hartley.
On February 22nd, 1905 the departed pledged sacred troth to Mr. Lewis Bruegman of this vicinity and the couple settled on a farm southwest of town. Two children were born to this union.
The interests of the departed were various. Aside from her own household which she managed well, she took pleasure in looking after the home of her father. The secret pride of many a farm wife is a large poultry yard, and this branch of work the departed followed with pleasure and with success. She was a member of the Farm Bureau.
Mrs. Bruegman was baptized and confirmed and with her husband was a member of Trinity Evangelical church. She was a member of the Doras Society, was interested in Christian activity and could always be counted upon to do her part. Endowed with a pleasant temperament, she made friends easily. She was a devoted wife and daughter, a kind sister and a loving mother. Her early death is being felt as a keen loss by the members of her family circle and by all who knew her. She will be missed in many places. She had attained the age of 39 years, 8 months and 27 days.
The departed had been preceded in death by her mother and a sister in childhood. She is survived by her stricken husband, Mr. Lewis Bruegman, daughter Ella, son Gilbert, her father Mr. H.F. Stoterau, two brothers, Lewis and Ed Stoterau, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Brandt, an aged grandfather, Mr. Jipp, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held this afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2:00 from the Methodist church. Rev. Albrecht officiated, speaking words of comfort to the bereaved. A quartette rendered appropriate anthems. Her earthly remains were laid to rest in Pleasant View cemetery.
