Lawrence Donald Tifft (1933-2003)

Lawrence Donald Tifft. the son of Kenneth and Elleanor (Heinsen) Tifft, was born on January 14. 1933 in Sheldon. He spent his childhood years in the Sanbom area and attended school there. His mother died shortly after giving birth to him and his twin brother. Alice Melvelt of Paullina helped raise him and his brothers until August of 1939 when his dad remarried to Beulah Brahan.

On September 9, 1955. Lawrence was united in marriage to Lois Maassen at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, and to this union, three sons and a daughter were born: Larry, Lori, Lyle and L.D.

The couple resided in Sanborn where Lawrence had various jobs including his own grinding business and a sanitation service. He drove truck for Vander Veen Trucking for eight years, and then purchased his own truck and drove for Van Hof Trucking for 20 years. He loved driving his truck and meeting people wherever he went. On September 9, 2005. he and Lois celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together.

Due to failing health. Lawrence passed away at the Northwest Iowa Health Center on July 28, 2006 at the age of 73 years, six months and 14 days.

He is survived by his wife. Lois: four children and their families: Larry of Sanborn and his children: [redacted]: Lori Roder [redacted]: Lyle [redacted]: and L.D. [redacted]: 10 great-grandchildren, his twin brother. Lowell and his wife Donna of Spirit Lake: three sisters-in-law: Esther Meyer and her husband Myron of Archer; Helen Van Grouw and her husband Harold of Redlands. Calif., and Wilma David of Penny's Farm. Fla.; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, a sister-in-law. Margaret Good and a brother-in-law. Manuel David.

Lawrence was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn. He was a volunteer fireman for ten years. He loved animals and enjoyed helping his neighbors.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, August 1. 2006 at the First Reformed Church ot Sanbom with Rev. Gary Hegstad officiating. Congregational hymns were "One Day at a Time," "How Great Thou Art," and "I'll Fly Away." Organist was Arlene Dykstra. Pallbearers were Chad DeMey, Tyler Tifft. Travis Tifft, Joshua Meyer. Kyle Tiffl, and Kelvin Tifft. Honorary Pallbearers were Harvey Post, John Prins. Fred Bakker. Clarence Green, Jack Green, Kenny Brower, Don Faas. Jr., Theron (Stub) Stahl. and Ernie Vander Heiden.

Burial was In Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, with the Sanborn Funeral Home on charge of arrangements.
