John Giese (1925-1970)

John Giese, 44, was killed Monday afternoon in an accident about four and a half miles northeast of Sutherland on a gravel county road. The emergency crew of the Sutherland Fire Department was called immediately, but John was killed instantly. The tragic accident occurred as John was assisting Tom Triplett in starting his pickup truck. As John was driving the tractor, pulling the pickup, he hit a soft shoulder and rolled over into the ditch. John was pinned under it. The pickup, chained to the tractor, also ran off the road, turning over on top of the tractor. Tom Triplett escaped uninjured. Services Today Funeral services for Mr. Giese will be held today. February 19 at the Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Rev. Holtry will officiate.

Mr, Giese was born August 3, 1925 and graduated from the Walnut Iowa High School with the class of 1942. He entered military service in August 17, 1944 at Leavenworth, Kansas and served in Europe and Africa in the mideast theatre from February 1945 to June 1945. He received his discharge at Fort Devens, Mass. on October 21, 1945. The Giese family moved to Sutherland in 1946.

John was married to Ruth Dobricka of Sutherland in 1947. Mr. Giese is survived by his wife Ruth, seven children, 2 grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Dora Giese of Cherokee, three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Meins of Tuscon, Arizona, Mrs. Tom Triplett of Sutherland and Mrs. Delbert Fredericksen of Paullina and one brother Donald Giese of Sutherland. Burial will be in Watermann Cemetery at Sutherland.
