Alice E. (Jaycox) Mayden, the daughter of Delbert and Ruth (Trenhaile) Jaycox, was born at Bloomfield, Neb. on December 2, 1908. She lived her youth in the Bloomfield and Crofton areas, graduating from Crofton High School in 1927. She continued her education at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., and Buena Vista College at Storm Lake.

She was united in marriage to Robert Mayden on June 22, 1930 at Crofton, Neb. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Crofton area prior to moving to Lake Park, Ia. in 1937. In 1938 they farmed in the Spirit Lake area. Alice was a teacher for 27 years and taught in rural schools near Milford in 1945, followed by Summit Township near Fostoria, near Langdon for two years and the last 14 years of her teaching career were at the Sanborn Public school where she taught third and fourth grades.

She moved to Lake Park, Ia. in 1992 where she died at the Lake Park Care center on December 9, 2001 at the age of 93 years, 7 days.

Alice is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert, Jr. and Elaine of Windom, Minn., three granddaughters: Jerilyn Quintanilla, Jolene Stiglich, and Marcia Smith; three great-grandchildren; three brothers; James Jaycox of Bolivar, Mo., Marion Jaycox of Sanborn, Ia., Raymond Jaycox of Lake Park, Ia., a step-brother, Leroy Tinkham of Bullhead City, Ariz., and two sisters: Mrs. Horace (Lavonne) Wells of Cushing, Wisc., and Mrs. Dalton (Elaine) Morphew of Lake Park, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, on December 20, 1972, an infant daughter, three brothers: Ralph, Rex, and Donald, and one sister, Margaret Brasch.

Alice was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church where she was very active on various committees following her retirement. Special interests of Alice included traveling, attending family reunions, and piano and organ music. She taught piano lessons, enjoyed hearing from her former students, and truly shared and enjoyed her gift of teaching.

Funeral services were held December 12 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church with Rev. Sylvia Kennedy officiating. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
