Delbert John Williams, the son of William and Bessie Mangels Williams, was born on December 29, 1906 near Marcus, in Cherokee County. Iowa. He attended country school near his childhood home.

He was united in marriage to Irene Kriens Sass in August of 1928. Their early married life was spent in Cherokee and O'Brien Counties in Iowa until moving to California, where Delbert was employed with the Operating Engineers until his retirement.

He passed away on January 22, 1986 at the Paradise Valley Hospital in National City, California, having reached the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene in 1985; his parents; one son, Jimmie; and one grandson, Ranny (Duran Wade).

Left to cherish his memory are three sons: John of San Diego, California, Junior of Lakeside, California, and Jerry of Marion, Iowa; three daughters, Betty Hinrichsen of Stockton, California, Beverlee Bignell of San Diego, California, and Bonnie Longfellow of Corona, California; one stepson, Maynard Sass of LaMesa, California; twenty-seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadine Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona and Dorothy Rohwer of Primghar; one brother, Bill of Tucson, Arizona; other relatives and friends.

Services in memory of Delbert J. Williams were held at the Baumgarten Funeral Home in Hartley on Tuesday afternoon, January 28. Rev. Manzel Berlin was the officiating clergyman. Burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley. The casket bearers were Nick Williams, Mike Williams, Paul Williams, Gregory Williams, Rick Williams, Dave Williams, Doug Williams and Mike Brogla.
