MARY E. FAHLENKAMP 1914 — 2002

Mary "Mate" Evelyn (Fink) Fahlenkamp, the daughter of Ross and Beatrice (Downs) Fink, was born at Sanborn. Iowa on May 15, 1914. Mary is remembered as the Sanborn "Cyclone Baby." She lived her youth and received her education at Sanborn, graduating from Sanborn High School.

She was united in marriage to Charles Fahlenkamp on October 23, 1940, at Ida Grove, Iowa. Their married lifetime was spent in Sanborn with the exception of several years when they resided in California during the war. Mary did babysitting, cared for people who were sick, and was a seamstress. Charles died in October, 1978.

Mary entered Prairie View Nursing Home in 1993 and she died there on September 23, 2002, at the age of 88 years, four months and eight days.

She is survived by four grandchildren: Charles, Steven, and Amy. all of Lake Charles, La. and Lee of McGregor Tex., several great-grandchildren, one brother and his wife, Paul and Nora Fink of Sanborn; a sister and her husband, Marley and Harold Hoekstra of Sanborn: nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son. Larry, and three sisters, Betty, Pat, and Venita.

Mary was a member of St Cecilia's Catholic Church of Sanborn. She will be remembered as a frugal person who also enjoyed sewing, doing crafts, working crossword puzzles, watching daytime TV. antiques, plants, and flowers.

Memorial services were held at St Cecilia's Catholic Church at Sanborn on September 26 with Father Wm. Paul McKane. O.S.B. officiating. Casket bearers were John Stofferan, Pat Strait, Marty Stofferan, Fred Stofferan, Robert Stofferan, and Michael Stofferan. Hymns were "Here I Am," "How Great Thou Art," "Prayer of St. Francis," and "Sing to the Mountain." Organist was Pat Enger. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
