Alvina Margaret (Schuman) Moeller (1860-1941)

Mrs. Alvina Margaret Moeller, the oldest child of Mr. Henry Schuman, and his wife Margaret Jordan, was born Oct. 23, 1860 at Holstein, Germany. In infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran church and on March 23, 1941 by the rite of confirmation she became a member of the English Lutheran church of Royal, Ia. In the year 1867, when Mrs. Moeller was 7 years old, she came to America with her parents, settling on a farm in Scott County, Iowa. Here she lived with her parents for ten years.

On Sept 17, 1877, she was united in the bonds of holy wedlock with Mr. Henry S. Moeller. The newly married couple made their home on a farm in Scott Co. In 1894 they moved to Ida County and lived on a farm for one year and then made their home in Holstein, Ia. In 1903 they moved to O'Brien Co. and settled on a farm one mile west and 2 1/2 miles south of Moneta. Since 1913 they made their home in Moneta, Ia.

To this union two children were born: Mrs. Anna M. Steffen and Mrs Henry J. W. Moeller. Her husband departed this life on March 20, 1935.

Mrs. Moeller was a faithful wife and mother. Her memory will linger long among her family and her many friends. She also possessed a great love for her church and Savior.

The departed has been in failing health for the last few months and on Saturday. July. 5 her condition became more acute and Wednesday, July 9th at one A M. death overtook her. She departed this life at the age of 80 years 8 months and 16 days. The cause of her death was given as a heart attack.

Mrs. Moeller leaves to mourn her death her two children, Mrs. Anna M. Steffen and Mr. Henry J. W. Moeller of Moneta, Ia. Six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Henry J Schuman of Scott Bluff, Neb, Claus Schuman and Wm. Schuman of Florence, Montana, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Lohff of Holstein, Ia., plus a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, July 11 at one o'clock from the Lutheran church at Royal with the Rev. V. Kollman in charge. Pallbearers were her six grandchildren: Julius Peterson, John Blomendahl, Clarence Steffen, Ray Schoening Herman Kollen and Lester Moeller. Her earthly remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near Hartley, Iowa.
