SERVICES HELD FOR HAROLD BRYANT

Harold Everette Bryant, the sen of Charles and Nora Wilson Bryant, was born May 20, 1913 in Grant Township near Sutherland, Iowa. He passed away at 6:30 p.m. on July 16, 1981 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City, in the Intensive Care Unit, after a short illness, at the age of 68.

He received his education in rural schools near his childhood home and was a graduate of Sutherland High School in 1930. He was united in marriage to Violet Thorteen on July 23, 1933. To this union three children were born; Jermaine, James and Janaan.

They farmed near Sutherland until moving to Hartley where they built the Iowan Motel in 1953, which they operated until 1963. After selling, they owned and managed motels in Fort Dodge and Marshall town, then working for Travelodge Corporation in several cities until 1976, when they moved back to Hartley to semi-retire and spent the last few winters in Arizona.

He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Arlie.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Violet, one son and his wife, James and Joyce Bryant of Lake Mills, Iowa, two daughters and their husbands, Jermaine and Merlyn Welch of Hartley, and Janaan and Bill Barker of Scottsdale, Arizona. Ten grandchildren; Jonelle, Kelly and wife Pam, and Kerry Welch; Jeff and wife Nancy, Terry and Brad Bryant; Bill, Steven, Karin and Matthew Barker, and one great grand daughter, Tanya Welch, one brother, W.R. Bryant of Canton, South Dakota, and one sister, Eva Marie Bryant of Hampton, Iowa as well as other relatives and friends.

Casket bearers were grandsons, Kelly and Kerry Welch, Jeff, Terry and Brad Bryant, and Bill and Steven Barker. Honorary casket bearers were the remaining members of the original Trinity Softball team, Wah Roggenburg, Harry Wiese, Arnold Gruhn, Bill Cruhn, Earl Peters, and Orlie Popp. Services were at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, with Rev. B.W. Sayler officiating and interment at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.
